Week 4 - Self Study (Simple Game and Game Ideas)

Hi guys, this week we have 2 things to do, the first is a Simple Game and the second is Game Idea.

Simple Game

I'm still doing, it hasn't done!

Game Ideas

I have come up with some ideas that can be used to do for this semester or I will make it after this semester

1. Space war

Introduction

Space War is a 3D action shooter game that was inspired by my 2D game "Where is My Spaceship" from KIT109. In this game, the player controls their spaceship to look for and destroy enemy spaceships. The game consists of multiple levels.

+Level 1 Player must destroy 10 enemy spaceships to pass (in this level. Player has 100 health and each enemy spaceship has 50 health)
+Level 2 Player must destroy 20 enemy spaceships to pass (in this level. Player has 100 health and each enemy spaceship has 100 health)
+Level 3 Player must destroy 30 enemy spaceships to pass (in this level. Player has 100 health and each enemy spaceship has 100 health and enemy spaceship will be exploded when being destroyed and take 40 damage if player is staying near)

Gameplay mechanics: Players navigate their spaceships through a 3D environment, using controls to maneuver and fight enemy ships. Strategically target and destroy enemies while avoiding damage.
-Movement: WASD keys.
-Shooting: Left Click.
-Shield: Spacebar.

Consideration:
+Enemy Mothership: Consider an enemy mothership. When an enemy ship's health falls below 25%, it can retreat to the mothership for healing.
+Power-ups: Create collectible spaceship components that provide health upon pickup.

Target Audience:
- Gamers interested in space-themed games: Those who enjoy space-themed games
- Fans of 3D action games: Players who enjoy immersive 3D action games with fast-paced combat and dynamic environments would find Space War engaging.
-Strategy enthusiasts: Gamers who appreciate strategic elements such as target prioritization, resource management (health and shield), and maneuvering tactics would enjoy the gameplay depth offered by Space War.
- Competitive gamers: Space War's multiple levels with increasing difficulty can appeal to competitive gamers seeking challenges and opportunities for mastery.

The Game would be successful because:
-Space War offers engaging gameplay with a mix of action, strategy, and exploration in a visually appealing 3D environment. With multiple levels and increasing challenges, Space War keeps players motivated and engaged as they progress through the game.

Prototype:
-For the prototype, the primary goal would be to focus on gameplay mechanics and core features such as movement, shooting, shield usage, enemy AI behavior. This ensures that the prototype delivers a solid foundation for the game's core experience, allowing for testing and refinement based on player feedback

Genre of this game: Action, Shooter, Strategy, Exploration

2. Cat, Mouse and Maze

Introduction

Cat, Mouse and Maze is a 3D puzzle-adventure game inspired by the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. In this game, players take on the role of a clever mouse trapped in a maze with a cunning cat on the prowl. Your tiny mouse boasts a keen sense of smell. Whenever the cat lurks nearby, an alert will warn you. Forget the mini-map! Rely on your memory and the strategic scent trails your mouse leaves behind to navigate. The main objective is to escape the maze within the time limit.

The game features multiple levels with varying maze layouts, ranging from easy to difficult as you progress.

Level 1: Players have 15 minutes to find the exit.
Level 2: Players have 15 minutes to find the exit. Landing on a trap renders the mouse immobile for 10 seconds.
Level 3: Players have 15 minutes to find the exit. Landing on a trap stuns the mouse for 10 seconds. Additionally, hidden traps appear in this level.

Cheese Power-Ups! Collect cheese scattered throughout the maze for a temporary speed boost, helping you evade the cat's pursuit.

Gameplay Mechanics:
-Timer Challenge: Each level presents players with a time limit to reach the exit. For example, Level 1 grants players 15 minutes to escape.
-However, if the cat catches the mouse, the game is immediately over.
-Movement: WASD keys
-Scent Marking: Spacebar (Dash functionality in Unity will be used for this)

Considerations:
-Hiding Spots: Implement hiding spots for the mouse to temporarily avoid the cat.
-Losing on Capture: Instead of immediate defeat upon capture, consider implementing a time penalty for being caught.

Target Audience:
-Casual Gamers: This game caters to players who enjoy accessible yet challenging experiences that require quick thinking and strategic planning. The simple controls make it easy for casual gamers to pick up and play.
-Puzzle and Strategy Game Fans: This game appeals to individuals who appreciate problem-solving skills and strategic thinking to navigate challenging levels. The maze design and traps add a layer of puzzle-solving to the gameplay.

Why This Game Would Be Successful:
-Engaging Gameplay: The combination of the timer challenge, strategic scent marking, and traps creates an engaging and immersive experience that keeps players on their toes.
-Replayability: With multiple levels of increasing difficulty and the incentive to collect cheese power-ups for speed boosts, the game offers high replay value, encouraging players to return for more.
-Accessibility: The simple controls make the game accessible to a wide range of players, including those who may not be seasoned gamers.

Prototype:
-The primary goal of the prototype is to effectively showcase the core gameplay mechanics. This involves implementing movement controls, the scent marking mechanic, the timer challenge, and basic maze navigation. We can leverage the knowledge gained from this unit on terrain and proBuilder to create the maze. Additionally, we can utilize Blender to create basic character models for the cat and mouse and its animations.

Genre of this game: Puzzle

Break the System: In this idea, the maze symbolizes a system – a structured environment with branching paths and challenges. The cat and traps represent obstacles that function within this system. The mouse is like the protagonist, whose main goal is to find a way out of the maze and avoid the cat and traps. When the mouse successfully escapes the maze, it breaks the system.
